THE ART OF THE MEME:

Oh memes! Our modern medium of choice for amusing content consumption. But what happens when we take something so fleeting, and turn it into something meant to hang on a wall and be admired? And what transformations does a work undergo when it goes from being drawn for the web, to being printed for an installation?

We knew we wanted to begin Gemini this quandry. We also knew we wanted it to be a photo-op for the ages. If you follow Kallie/@ultramirror/@itsametaphorfordeath on IG, its probably because--like us--you appreciate their colorfully dark humor. In transforming from something you’d laugh at while scrolling on Instagram into art that is exhibited, Kallie pushes ut o examine how our interpretations of the overlooked aspects of the internet can shift based on context and environment. Here, we are encouraged to pause in our scrolling, and spend some more time with the work, while considering the darker undertones to even the most vibrant of moments.
