Lyla Clayre: Musings in Watercolor
“An homage to both the classical and contemporary, Musings in Watercolor reflects the artist’s experience of New Orleans and honors the creative culture the city continues to inspire.”
The first-ever solo show from Femaissance featured the work of Lyla Clayre who since Femaissance Primavera has graced our curations with exquisite compositions from The Garden of Hesperides (after Botticelli’s Primavera), The Kiss (after Klimt), and most recently, the 9 Muses. All rooted in art history, Lyla’s contributions to Femaissance are at once academic and impassioned, as she propels art’s most beloved images into present day through explorations of the female gaze, queerness and femininity. Exhibited alongside her other subjects of New Orleans culture and Louisiana horticulture, Clayre’s Femaissance paintings bring tangible humanity into the conversation of her fundamentally local yet timeless oeuvre.
