A CASE FOR SUPPORT:
Feeling angry about the state of the world?
Frustrated that womxn are still on the outside looking in when it comes to the economy, politics and opportunities for artistic expression?
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Here’s a way to “fight the man” and show your love for more than 50 New Orleans-based female artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs.
Next month, Femaissance returns with “Femaissance: Proserpina,” our most ambitious – and most political – project to date. Titled “Femaissance: Proserpina,” after the Roman goddess who was abducted, raped, and forced into marriage, our fall exhibition celebrates the resilience of women – from Proserpina herself to the brave women of #MeToo to the record number of female candidates running for office in 2018. The pagan myth informs our own truths as womxn, marking our third exhibition as “The Protest Poster of Femaissance.” “Proserpina” also marks the one-year anniversary of Femaissance in New Orleans.
We need your support in the next two weeks to ensure we can mount the show and launch our next chapter
We need to raise $10,000 to secure the space, equipment and programming to make the show successful.
OUR NEXT CHAPTER:
The Lighthouse at 743 Camp
the third Curation • our premier exhibition as an independent business • located in our dream venue: a historic lighthouse in the centrally located CBD
WHY INVEST IN FEMAISSANCE:
I. Investing in Femaissance means investing in womxn
Our curated exhibitions seek to connect diverse groups of womxn in a city lacking female-centered spaces. Femaissance creates a market for female “makers” and introduces them to New Orleanians who want to support their creative endeavors. In less than one year, Femaissance has produced door-busting parties, an Instagram account reaching over 2,400 millenial women overindexing in the New Orleans area and national media coverage from the likes of Vogue and Man Repeller.
II. Who despite all our success still need your help
Our Truth: We have found that the patriarchal forces that seek to define artistic expression in New Orleans are simply not ready for an insurgency like ours.
With “Proserpina,” Femaissance seeks to liberate itself from the commercial restraints imposed by our previous venues. We want to offer more than three weeks of engaging programs that are free to the public (including opening and closing night parties, artist talks and events featuring leading business and cultural personalities).
Raise $10K to make this the most successful show yet, galvanizing our Femaissance Army and providing a marketplace through which our artists can support themselves through their art, and visitors can feel empowered through community.
CAN WE COUNT ON YOU TO INVEST IN THE SUCCESS OF THIS POWERFUL MOVEMENT?
