Beachcomber 2018

Oil on Canvas | 20x30.5in.

This painting was inspired by Caravaggio's Narcissus. This is an imagined female version of the myth of a young and beautiful male hunter who becomes transfixed by his own reflection. In Beachcomber the figure catches just a fragmented glimpse. Unlike the original tale this painting is not about the consequences of haughtiness or narcissism. The beachcomber is searching and carefully studying her reflection not on appearance but inward on perception of self.
